A vulnerability was found in NetBSD up to 3.0 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file if_bridge. The bridge ioctl (if_bridge code) in NetBSD 1.6 through 3.0 does not clear sensitive memory before copying ioctl results to the requesting process, which allows local users to obtain portions of kernel memory.
The weakness was published 03/30/2006 by Xin Li (Website). The advisory is shared for download at ftp.netbsd.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-1588 since 04/02/2006. Access to the local network is required for this attack to succeed. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
