A vulnerability was found in Phorum 3.4/3.4.1/3.4.2 (Forum Software). It has been rated as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block of the file register.php/login.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-269. Unspecified vulnerability in Phorum 3.4 through 3.4.2 allows remote attackers to use Phorum as a connection proxy to other sites via (1) register.php or (2) login.php.
The weakness was presented 12/31/2003 with ProCheckUp Ltd. (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2003-1466 since 10/24/2007. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
By approaching the search of inurl:register.php/login.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 11222 (Phorum Register.PHP Connection Proxying Vulnerability).
