A vulnerability was found in Sun Solaris 8.0/9.0 (Operating System). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is some unknown processing of the component LDAP2 Directory Server. The manipulation of the argument rootDN with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-200. Unspecified vulnerability in Solaris 8 and 9 allows local users to obtain the LDAP Directory Server root Distinguished Name (rootDN) password when a privileged user (1) runs idsconfig; or "insecurely" runs LDAP2 commands with the -w option, including (2) ldapadd, (3) ldapdelete, (4) ldapmodify, (5) ldapmodrdn, and (6) ldapsearch.
The weakness was presented 04/12/2006 by Michael Gerdts (Website). The advisory is shared for download at sunsolve.sun.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-1782 since 04/13/2006. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1592.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 855231 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at sunsolve.sun.com.
