Upgrading the affected component is advised.
Details
A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.10 (Operating System) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects the function wilc_wfi_cfg_parse_ch_attr of the file drivers/net/wireless/microchip/wilc1000/cfg80211.c of the component WILC1000 Wireless Driver. The manipulation of the argument IEEE80211_P2P_ATTR_OPER_CHANNEL with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. The product writes data past the end, or before the beginning, of the intended buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel before 6.0.11. Missing validation of IEEE80211_P2P_ATTR_OPER_CHANNEL in drivers/net/wireless/microchip/wilc1000/cfg80211.c in the WILC1000 wireless driver can trigger an out-of-bounds write when parsing the channel list attribute from Wi-Fi management frames.
The weakness was disclosed 12/18/2022. The advisory is available at lore.kernel.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2022-47519 since 12/18/2022. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
