Summary
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.10. The impacted element is the function wilc_wfi_cfg_parse_ch_attr of the file drivers/net/wireless/microchip/wilc1000/cfg80211.c of the component WILC1000 Wireless Driver. Performing a manipulation of the argument IEEE80211_P2P_ATTR_CHANNEL_LIST results in heap-based overflow.
This vulnerability is identified as CVE-2022-47521. There is not any exploit available.
It is recommended to upgrade the affected component.
Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.0.10 (Operating System). This affects the function wilc_wfi_cfg_parse_ch_attr of the file drivers/net/wireless/microchip/wilc1000/cfg80211.c of the component WILC1000 Wireless Driver. The manipulation of the argument IEEE80211_P2P_ATTR_CHANNEL_LIST with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
An issue was discovered in the Linux kernel before 6.0.11. Missing validation of IEEE80211_P2P_ATTR_CHANNEL_LIST in drivers/net/wireless/microchip/wilc1000/cfg80211.c in the WILC1000 wireless driver can trigger a heap-based buffer overflow when parsing the operating channel attribute from Wi-Fi management frames.
The weakness was released 12/18/2022. The advisory is shared at lore.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2022-47521 since 12/18/2022. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
