A vulnerability was found in Adam Webb Nukejokes 1.7/2 Beta and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function CatView/JokeView of the file mainfunctions.php. The manipulation of the argument cat with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability (Path). Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
NukeJokes 1.7 and 2 Beta allows remote attackers to obtain the full path of the server via (1) a direct call to mainfunctions.php, (2) an invalid jokeid parameter in a JokeView function or (3) an invalid cat parameter in a CatView function, which reveals the path in a PHP error message.
The weakness was disclosed 05/08/2004 by Janek Vind with waraxe (Website). The advisory is shared at marc.theaimsgroup.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2009 since 05/04/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1592 for this issue.
By approaching the search of inurl:mainfunctions.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
