The Windows Media Player control in Microsoft Windows 2000 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary script in the local computer zone via an ASX filename that contains javascript, which is executed in the local context in a preview panel.
The weakness was disclosed 07/27/2004 by Paul with greyhats (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at marc.info. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-0726 since 07/22/2004. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
