Details
A vulnerability was found in Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.7 (Supply Chain Management Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects some unknown processing of the component PL/SQL Module. The manipulation as part of a WE8ISO8859P1 Character Set leads to a privileges management vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
The PL/SQL module for the Oracle HTTP Server in Oracle Application Server 10g, when using the WE8ISO8859P1 character set, does not perform character conversions properly, which allows remote attackers to bypass access restrictions for certain procedures via an encoded URL with "%FF" encoded sequences that are improperly converted to "Y" characters.
The bug was discovered 12/23/2004. The weakness was presented 08/04/2004 by Esteban Martinez Fayo (Alex) (Website). The advisory is shared at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-1362 since 01/07/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed in SQL. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. We expect the 0-day to have been worth approximately $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 23409 (Solaris 8 (sparc) : 118828-04), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Solaris Local Security Checks and running in the context l.
