IBM WebSphere Application Server 6.0.2 before FixPack 3 allows remote attackers to bypass authentication for the Welcome Page via a request to the default context root.
The bug was discovered 05/08/2006. The weakness was shared 05/08/2006 with IBM (Website). The advisory is shared for download at www-1.ibm.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-2342 since 05/12/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 87082 (IBM WebSphere Welcome Page Authentication Bypass (PK10057)).
