A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in LibTIFF 4.4.0 (Image Processing Software). Affected is the function tiffcrop of the file tools/tiffcrop.c of the component TIFF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. LibTIFF 4.4.0 has an out-of-bounds write in tiffcrop in tools/tiffcrop.c:3502, allowing attackers to cause a denial-of-service via a crafted tiff file. For users that compile libtiff from sources, the fix is available with commit 33aee127.
The weakness was released 02/14/2023 as 496. The advisory is shared for download at gitlab.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-0800 since 02/12/2023. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available.
