A vulnerability has been found in LibTIFF 4.4.0 (Image Processing Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function tiffcrop of the file libtiff/tif_unix.c of the component TIFF File Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a out-of-bounds write vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-787. LibTIFF 4.4.0 has an out-of-bounds write in tiffcrop in libtiff/tif_unix.c:368, invoked by tools/tiffcrop.c:2903 and tools/tiffcrop.c:6778, allowing attackers to cause a denial-of-service via a crafted tiff file. For users that compile libtiff from sources, the fix is available with commit 33aee127.
The weakness was disclosed 02/14/2023 as 498. The advisory is shared at gitlab.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-0801 since 02/12/2023. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
