Details
A vulnerability was found in Logicnow PerlDesk (Programming Language Software) (version now known). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file pdesk.cgi of the component Error Message Handler. The manipulation of the argument lang with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in pdesk.cgi in PerlDesk allows remote attackers to read portions of arbitrary files and possibly execute arbitrary Perl modules via ".." sequences terminated by a %00 (null) character in the lang parameter, which can leak portions of the requested files if a compilation error message occurs.
The weakness was published 09/13/2004 (Website). The advisory is available at marc.info. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1678 since 02/21/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy.
