Details
A vulnerability was found in Kubernetes kube-apiserver (Virtualization Software) (affected version unknown) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown functionality of the component Node Address Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Users may have access to secure endpoints in the control plane network. Kubernetes clusters are only affected if an untrusted user can modify Node objects and send proxy requests to them. Kubernetes supports node proxying, which allows clients of kube-apiserver to access endpoints of a Kubelet to establish connections to Pods, retrieve container logs, and more. While Kubernetes already validates the proxying address for Nodes, a bug in kube-apiserver made it possible to bypass this validation. Bypassing this validation could allow authenticated requests destined for Nodes to to the API server's private network.
The weakness was published 03/01/2023 as 113757. The advisory is shared at github.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2022-3294 since 09/23/2022. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
