A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP and ABAP Platform up to 791 (Application Server Software). Affected is some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. SAP NetWeaver Application Server for ABAP and ABAP Platform - versions 700, 701, 702, 731, 740, 750, 751, 752, 753, 754, 755, 756, 757, 791, allows an attacker with non-administrative authorizations to exploit a directory traversal flaw in an available service to overwrite the system files. In this attack, no data can be read but potentially critical OS files can be overwritten making the system unavailable.
The weakness was shared 03/14/2023. The advisory is shared for download at launchpad.support.sap.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-27269 since 02/27/2023.
