Details
A vulnerability has been found in SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP and ABAP Platform up to 791 (Solution Stack Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
SAP NetWeaver AS for ABAP and ABAP Platform - versions 700, 701, 702, 731, 740, 750, 751, 752, 753, 754, 755, 756, 757, 791, allows an attacker to exploit insufficient validation of path information provided by users, thus exploiting a directory traversal flaw in an available service to delete system files. In this attack, no data can be read but potentially critical OS files can be deleted making the system unavailable, causing significant impact on both availability and integrity
The weakness was published 03/14/2023. The advisory is shared at launchpad.support.sap.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2023-27501 since 03/02/2023. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
