Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in phpMyAdmin 2.8.0.x before 2.8.0.4 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the theme parameter in unknown scripts. NOTE: the lang parameter is already covered by CVE-2006-2031.
The weakness was shared 05/15/2006 by Sven Vetsch (Disenchant) with phpMyAdmin Team (Website). The advisory is available at phpmyadmin.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-2417 since 05/15/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:Index.PHP it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks.
Upgrading to version 2.8.0.4 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at phpmyadmin.net. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
