A recommended admin password reset mechanism for BEA WebLogic Server 8.1, when followed before October 10, 2005, causes the administrator password to be stored in cleartext in the domain directory, which could allow attackers to gain privileges.

The weakness was disclosed 05/16/2006 with BEA (Website). The advisory is available at dev2dev.bea.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2546 since 05/22/2006. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
