A vulnerability classified as critical was found in BEA WebLogic 8.1 (Application Server Software). This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the component Java Web Service. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. CVE summarizes:
A recommended admin password reset mechanism for BEA WebLogic Server 8.1, when followed before October 10, 2005, causes the administrator password to be stored in cleartext in the domain directory, which could allow attackers to gain privileges.
The weakness was disclosed 05/16/2006 with BEA (Website). The advisory is available at dev2dev.bea.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2546 since 05/22/2006. The attack can only be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept.
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at dev2dev.bea.com.
