A vulnerability was found in BEA WebLogic up to 8.1 SP4 (Application Server Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component Client Connection Manager. A recommended admin password reset mechanism for BEA WebLogic Server 8.1, when followed before October 10, 2005, causes the administrator password to be stored in cleartext in the domain directory, which could allow attackers to gain privileges.

The weakness was disclosed 05/16/2006 with BEA (Website). The advisory is shared at dev2dev.bea.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-2546 since 05/22/2006. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1600 for this issue.
