A vulnerability has been found in Linux Kernel up to 2.6.8 (Operating System) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function ip_options_get. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer coercion vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-192. Integer coercion refers to a set of flaws pertaining to the type casting, extension, or truncation of primitive data types. As an impact it is known to affect availability. CVE summarizes:
Integer overflow in the ip_options_get function in the Linux kernel before 2.6.10 allows local users to cause a denial of service (kernel crash) via a cmsg_len that contains a -1, which leads to a buffer overflow.
The weakness was presented 12/15/2004 by Georgi Guninski (Website). The advisory is available at securitytrap.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1334 since 01/06/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. Local access is required to approach this attack. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
