A vulnerability has been found in Xmb Forum Xmb 1.8/1.8 Sp1/1.8 Sp2 (Forum Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects some unknown functionality of the file viewthread.php. The manipulation of the argument addon with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in XMB 1.8 Final SP2 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary SQL and gain privileges via the (1) ppp parameter in viewthread.php, (2) desc parameter in misc.php, (3) tpp parameter in forumdisplay.php, (4) ascdesc parameter in forumdisplay.php, or (5) the addon parameter in stats.php. NOTE: it has also been shown that item (3) is also in XMB 1.9 beta.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2004 by Janek Vind with waraxe (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.theaimsgroup.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0323. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1505.
It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:viewthread.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
