Mozilla Firefox before the Preview Release, Mozilla before 1.7.3, and Thunderbird before 0.8 may allow remote attackers to trick users into performing unexpected actions, including installing software, via signed scripts that request enhanced abilities using the enablePrivilege parameter, then modify the meaning of certain security-relevant dialog messages.
The weakness was disclosed 12/31/2004 by Jesse Ruderman as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is available at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-0909 since 09/23/2004. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. This vulnerability is assigned to T1592 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.
