A vulnerability was found in Novell NetWare up to 6.5 SP5 (Operating System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function groupOperationsMethod of the file PORTAL.NLM. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cleartext storage vulnerability. PORTAL.NLM in Novell Netware 6.5 SP5 writes the username and password in cleartext to the abend.log log file when the groupOperationsMethod function fails, which allows context-dependent attackers to gain privileges.
The weakness was released 05/26/2006 with Novell (Website). The advisory is available at support.novell.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2006-2185 since 05/03/2006. Access to the local network is required for this attack. The requirement for exploitation is a single authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
