A vulnerability was found in WordPress 1.2 (Content Management System). It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects some unknown processing of the file wp-login.php. The manipulation of the argument mode with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in Wordpress 1.2 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) redirect_to, text, popupurl, or popuptitle parameters to wp-login.php, (2) redirect_url parameter to admin-header.php, (3) popuptitle, popupurl, content, or post_title parameters to bookmarklet.php, (4) cat_ID parameter to categories.php, (5) s parameter to edit.php, or (6) s or mode parameter to edit-comments.php.
The weakness was published 12/31/2004 by Thomas Waldegger (Website). The advisory is shared for download at marc.info. This vulnerability was named CVE-2004-1559 since 02/20/2005. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim.
