A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Jelsoft vBulletin (Forum Software). This affects an unknown code block of the file memberlist.php. The manipulation of the argument what with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Jelsoft vBulletin before 3.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the what parameter to memberlist.php.
The weakness was presented 03/15/2004 by JeiAr with Gulftech (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at secunia.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-1824 since 05/04/2005. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
