A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0.1 (Web Browser). It has been classified as problematic. This affects an unknown code block in the library asycpict.dll. asycpict.dll, as used in Microsoft products such as Front Page 97 and 98, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (hang) via a JPEG image with maximum height and width values.
The issue has been introduced in 10/01/1996. The weakness was released 12/31/2004 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2004-2179 since 07/11/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely.
