A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in phpMyFAQ 1.3.12 (Content Management System). Affected is an unknown code of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument action with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in phpMyFAQ 1.3.12 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files, and possibly execute local PHP files, via the action variable, which is used as part of a template filename.
The bug was discovered 05/16/2004. The weakness was published 05/18/2004 by Stefan Esser (e-matters) (Website). The advisory is shared for download at security.e-matters.de.
