A vulnerability was found in IBM Lotus Domino 6.5.1 (Groupware Software). It has been declared as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code of the component WebAdmin. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, and integrity. The summary by CVE is:

Directory traversal vulnerability in webadmin.nsf in Lotus Domino R6 6.5.1 allows local users to create folders or determine the existence of files via a .. (dot dot) in the new folder dialog.

The bug was discovered 03/17/2004. The weakness was shared 12/31/2004 by Dr_insane (Website). The advisory is shared at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2004-2311 since 08/16/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.

It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 289 days.
