A vulnerability was found in Ada Imgsvr 0.4 and classified as problematic. This issue affects some unknown processing. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in ADA Image Server (ImgSvr) 0.4 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files or list directories via hex-encoded "..//" sequences ("%2e%2e%2f%2f"). NOTE: it was later reported that 0.6.21 and earlier is also affected.
The weakness was released 04/03/2004 by Dr_insane (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2004-2464 since 08/20/2005. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
