Details
A vulnerability was found in mprivacy-tools. It has been classified as critical. Affected is the function print of the component PDF Document Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
In mprivacy-tools before 2.0.406g in m-privacy TightGate-Pro Server, a Directory Traversal in the print function of the VNC service allows authenticated attackers (with access to a VNC session) to automatically transfer malicious PDF documents by moving them into the .spool directory, and then sending a signal to the VNC service, which automatically transfers them to the connected VNC client's filesystem.
The weakness was disclosed 11/22/2023. The advisory is shared for download at sec-consult.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-47251 since 11/04/2023. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1006.
