Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Linux Kernel (Operating System) (version now known). Affected is the function nvmet_tcp_build_iovec of the component NVMe Driver. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a null pointer dereference vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel's NVMe driver. This issue may allow an unauthenticated malicious actor to send a set of crafted TCP packages when using NVMe over TCP, leading the NVMe driver to a NULL pointer dereference in the NVMe driver and causing kernel panic and a denial of service.
The weakness was disclosed 12/12/2023. The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2023-6356 since 11/28/2023. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 08/02/2025).
