A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Ethereal (Packet Analyzer Software). This affects an unknown function of the component ANSI A Dissector. Multiple format string vulnerabilities in the (1) DHCP and (2) ANSI A dissectors in Ethereal before 0.10.11 may allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code.

This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-1463 since 05/05/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. Upgrading to version 0.10.11 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 3 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
