A vulnerability has been found in mintplex-labs anything-llm up to 0.0.x and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block of the component Profile Picture Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-23. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that should be within a restricted directory, but it does not properly neutralize sequences such as ".." that can resolve to a location that is outside of that directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
A user who is privileged already `manager` or `admin` can set their profile picture via the frontend API using a relative filepath to then user the PFP GET API to download any valid files. The attacker would have to have been granted privileged permissions to the system before executing this attack.
The weakness was released 02/28/2024 as e1dcd5ded010b03abd6aa32d1bf0668a48e38e17. The advisory is shared at github.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2024-0550 since 01/15/2024. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
Upgrading to version 1.0.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch e1dcd5ded010b03abd6aa32d1bf0668a48e38e17 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
