Cacti up to 0.8.6e config.php sql injection

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Cacti up to 0.8.6e (Log Management Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown function of the file config.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

config.php in Cacti 0.8.6e and earlier allows remote attackers to set the no_http_headers switch, then modify session information to gain privileges and disable the use of addslashes to conduct SQL injection attacks.

The bug was discovered 07/04/2005. The weakness was presented 07/06/2005 by Stefan Esser with Hardened PHP Project (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at hardened-php.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2005-2149 since 07/06/2005. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1505 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:config.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 18619 (Cacti < 0.8.6f Authentication Bypass Vulnerability), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses and running in the context r.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (18619), SecurityFocus (BID 14130†), OSVDB (17719†), SecurityTracker (ID 1014361†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-8546†).
