A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 1.0.4 (Web Browser). It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. Firefox before 1.0.5 allows remote attackers to steal information and possibly execute arbitrary code by using standalone applications such as Flash and QuickTime to open a javascript: URL, which is run in the context of the previous page, and may lead to code execution if the standalone application loads a privileged chrome: URL.
The bug was discovered 07/12/2005. The weakness was disclosed 07/13/2005 by Matthew Mastracci (moz_bug_r_a4) as Bug 298255 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2005-2267 since 07/13/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
