A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Microsoft Office 2000/2001/2003/2004 (Office Suite Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component Document Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Unspecified vulnerability in Microsoft Office 2000, XP, 2003, 2004 for Mac, and v.X for Mac allows remote user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted string that triggers memory corruption.

The bug was discovered 10/10/2006. The weakness was shared 10/10/2006 by Dejun Meng (Sowhat) with Fortinet as MS06-062 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-3434 since 07/07/2006. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2682 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.
