A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in NullSoft WinAmp 5.3/5.24 (Multimedia Player Software). This affects an unknown code block in the library in_mp3.dll of the component Ultravox Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. The weakness was disclosed 10/25/2006 with iDefense Labs (Website). The advisory is shared at winamp.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-5567. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 22921 (Winamp < 5.31 Multiple Buffer Overflows), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows.
