Details
A vulnerability has been found in PHP-Fusion up to 6.00.109 (Content Management System) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the file register.php. The manipulation of the argument cat_id with an unknown input leads to a sql injection vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-89. The product constructs all or part of an SQL command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended SQL command when it is sent to a downstream component. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple SQL injection vulnerabilities in PHP-Fusion before 6.00.110 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary SQL commands via (1) the activate parameter in register.php and (2) the cat_id parameter in faq.php.
The bug was discovered 10/04/2005. The weakness was shared 10/06/2005 by Andreas Sandblad with Secunia Research (Website). The advisory is shared at archives.neohapsis.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2005-3161 since 10/06/2005. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1505 for this issue.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k.
