Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Linux Kernel up to 2.5 (Operating System). This issue affects an unknown functionality of the file ip_nat_proto_tcp.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. Impacted is availability. The summary by CVE is:
The NAT code (1) ip_nat_proto_tcp.c and (2) ip_nat_proto_udp.c in Linux kernel 2.6 before 2.6.13 and 2.4 before 2.4.32-rc1 incorrectly declares a variable to be static, which allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) by causing two packets for the same protocol to be NATed at the same time, which leads to memory corruption.
The bug was discovered 11/22/2005. The weakness was published 10/20/2005 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2005-3275 since 10/20/2005. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
