CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus up to 7.1.407 (Anti-Malware Software) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code of the component CAB Archive Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple integer overflows in Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus before 7.1.407 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted (1) CAB or (2) RAR archives that trigger a heap-based buffer overflow. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.

The bug was discovered 08/24/2006. The weakness was presented 11/14/2006 by Sergio Alvarez with n.runs (Website). The advisory is available at grisoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-5937 since 11/15/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 82 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k.

Upgrading to version 7.1.407 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at grisoft.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
