Details
A vulnerability was found in Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus up to 7.1.407 (Anti-Malware Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block of the component RAR Archive Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a integer overflow vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-190. The product performs a calculation that can produce an integer overflow or wraparound, when the logic assumes that the resulting value will always be larger than the original value. This can introduce other weaknesses when the calculation is used for resource management or execution control. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple integer overflows in Grisoft AVG Anti-Virus before 7.1.407 allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted (1) CAB or (2) RAR archives that trigger a heap-based buffer overflow. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was shared 11/14/2006 by Sergio Alvarez with n.runs (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at grisoft.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2006-5937 since 11/15/2006. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation.
