Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Citrix Presentation Server up to 9.200 (Connectivity Software). Affected by this issue is the function SendChannelData of the file WFICA.OCX. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a heap-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-122. A heap overflow condition is a buffer overflow, where the buffer that can be overwritten is allocated in the heap portion of memory, generally meaning that the buffer was allocated using a routine such as malloc(). Heap-based buffer overflow in the SendChannelData function in wfica.ocx in Citrix Presentation Server Client before 9.230 for Windows allows remote malicious web sites to execute arbitrary code via a DataSize parameter that is less than the length of the Data buffer.
The bug was discovered 12/04/2006. The weakness was published 12/06/2006 by Andrew Christensen (TippingPoint) with FortConsult (Website). The advisory is shared for download at fortconsult.net. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2006-6334 since 12/06/2006. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. A public exploit has been developed by Elazar and been published 2 years after the advisory. The exploit is available at fortconsult.net. It is declared as functional. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 115925 (Citrix Presentation Server Client WFICA.OCX ActiveX Component Heap Buffer Overflow).
Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at support.citrix.com. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
