Details
A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.4. Affected is the function nvme_uninit_ctrl. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a reference count vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-911. The product uses a reference count to manage a resource, but it does not update or incorrectly updates the reference count. The impact remains unknown. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: nvme: apple: fix device reference counting Drivers must call nvme_uninit_ctrl after a successful nvme_init_ctrl. Split the allocation side out to make the error handling boundary easier to navigate. The apple driver had been doing this wrong, leaking the controller device memory on a tagset failure.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2024-43913 since 08/17/2024. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
