Anbox Management Service, in versions 1.17.0 through 1.23.0, does not validate the TLS certificate provided to it by the Anbox Stream Agent. An attacker must be able to machine-in-the-middle the Anbox Stream Agent from within an internal network before they can attempt to take advantage of this.

The weakness was disclosed by Simon Fels. The advisory is shared at bugs.launchpad.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-8287 since 08/28/2024. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack needs to approached within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1587.003 for this issue.

Upgrading to version 1.23.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
