Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.10 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is the function hda_sdw_machine_select of the component soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. Impacted is availability. CVE summarizes:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match: add missing empty item There is no links_num in struct snd_soc_acpi_mach {}, and we test !link->num_adr as a condition to end the loop in hda_sdw_machine_select(). So an empty item in struct snd_soc_acpi_link_adr array is required.
The advisory is available at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2024-46862 since 09/11/2024. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.
Upgrading to version 6.10.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 01281a9e8275/bf6d7a44a144 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
