Details
A vulnerability was found in Linux Kernel up to 6.10.10. It has been classified as critical. This affects the function hda_sdw_machine_select of the component soc-acpi-intel-lnl-match. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a infinite loop vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-835. The product contains an iteration or loop with an exit condition that cannot be reached, i.e., an infinite loop. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-intel-lnl-match: add missing empty item There is no links_num in struct snd_soc_acpi_mach {}, and we test !link->num_adr as a condition to end the loop in hda_sdw_machine_select(). So an empty item in struct snd_soc_acpi_link_adr array is required.
It is possible to read the advisory at git.kernel.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2024-46863 since 09/11/2024. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 208877 (CBL Mariner 2.0 Security Update: kernel (CVE-2024-46863)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 6.10.11 eliminates this vulnerability. Applying the patch 8eb57389d8ad/c4246f1fe9f2 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at git.kernel.org. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be upgrading to the latest version.
