A vulnerability has been found in Sun ONE and iPlanet Web Server 4.x (Web Server) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code block of the file /search. The manipulation of the argument NS-max-records with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in /search in iPlanet Web Server 4.x allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the NS-max-records parameter. NOTE: The provenance of this information is unknown; the details are obtained solely from third party information.
The bug was discovered 01/09/2007. The weakness was disclosed 01/09/2007 by Khalsa (Website). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2007-0183 since 01/10/2007. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
