A vulnerability was found in Oracle Database Server 8.1.7.4/9.0.1.5/9.2.0.7/10.1.0.5 (Database Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code block. Multiple unspecified vulnerabilities in Oracle Database server 8.1.7.4, 9.0.1.5, 9.2.0.7, and 10.1.0.5 have unspecified impact and attack vectors, as identified by Oracle Vuln# (1) DB07 in the Dictionary component and (2) DB14 in the Oracle Label Security component. NOTE: Oracle has not disputed reliable researcher claims that DB07 involves plaintext storage of the TDE wallet password in a trace file by event 10053.
The weakness was published 01/18/2006 by Martin with Red-Database-Security as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). It is possible to read the advisory at kb.cert.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2006-0261 since 01/18/2006. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1555 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56051 (Oracle Database Multiple Vulnerabilities (January 2006 CPU)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Databases. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 19197 (Oracle January Security Update Multiple Vulnerabilities (January 2006)).
Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
