A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Help Workshop up to 4.03.0002 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown code of the component HPJ File Handler. Stack-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Help Workshop 4.03.0002 allows user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a help project (.HPJ) file with a long HLP field in the OPTIONS section.

The bug was discovered 01/17/2006. The weakness was disclosed 01/22/2007 by porkythepig as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at archives.neohapsis.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-0427 since 01/22/2007. The attack needs to be initiated within the local network. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
