Red Hat Fedora Core 1.0 memory leak

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Red Hat Fedora Core 1.0. Affected is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory leak vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-401. The product does not sufficiently track and release allocated memory after it has been used, which slowly consumes remaining memory. This is going to have an impact on availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple memory leaks in the LDAP component in Fedora Directory Server 1.0 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via invalid BER packets that trigger an error, which might prevent memory from being freed if it was allocated during the ber_scanf call, as demonstrated using the ProtoVer LDAP test suite.

The weakness was shared 02/14/2006 by Evgeny Legerov as Bug 179135 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2006-0451 since 01/27/2006. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (24794), SecurityFocus (BID 16677†) and Secunia (SA18960†). The entries VDB-28706 and VDB-28705 are related to this item. VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
