Details
A vulnerability has been found in Red Hat Fedora Core 1.0 and classified as problematic. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory allocation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-789. The product allocates memory based on an untrusted, large size value, but it does not ensure that the size is within expected limits, allowing arbitrary amounts of memory to be allocated. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
dn2ancestor in the LDAP component in Fedora Directory Server 1.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (CPU and memory consumption) via a ModDN operation with a DN that contains a large number of "," (comma) characters, which results in a large amount of recursion, as demonstrated using the ProtoVer LDAP test suite.
The weakness was published 02/14/2006 by Evgeny Legerov as Bug 179137 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2006-0452 since 01/27/2006. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (24796), SecurityFocus (BID 16677†) and Secunia (SA18960†). Similar entries are available at VDB-28706 and VDB-28704. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
